Quick Answer

A Potomac homeowner added 600 sq ft of new red oak to a whole-first-floor renovation and needed it to disappear into the original 1990s flooring.

The Problem

New red oak has a distinctly pinker, lighter tone than 25-year-old ambered red oak. Simply refinishing the whole floor with one stain would still show the difference under sunlight.

Our Solution

We interlaced new boards into the existing field at all doorways, sanded the entire first floor to bare wood, tested three custom stain blends on site, and finished with an oil-modified polyurethane to match the warmth of the original amber tone.

Results

The addition is completely invisible in every light. The homeowner has one continuous, warm red-oak floor with no thresholds and no visible transition.
