Hardwood Floor Repair Guide: Fix Anything Without Replacing
Nearly every hardwood floor problem is repairable without full replacement. Board weaving, cupping flatten-and-refinish, deep pet-stain removal and squeak fastening are all everyday work for a skilled hardwood contractor.
Damaged boards
Individual boards can be woven out — we cut the damaged sections out cleanly, mill new boards to match, and blend the repair into the surrounding floor before refinishing.
Cupping and crowning
Cupping (edges higher than center) is a moisture problem. Fix the source, let the floor stabilize, then sand flat. Crowning (center higher than edges) means the floor was sanded while still cupped — same fix, more patience.
Pet stains
Surface stains sand out. Black pet urine stains that soaked into the wood may need board replacement or oxalic-acid bleaching before refinishing.
Squeaks and gaps
Squeaks fasten from above or below. Gaps that appear seasonally are normal humidity movement; permanent gaps can be filled during refinishing or, for wide gaps, laced with slivers of matching wood.
